Communication

Academic Department

The Communication Program at the University of St. Thomas prepares students to become creative, thoughtful, and ethical communicators in a world shaped by media and technology - and called to shape culture in return.

Rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition, the program views communication not simply as a skill but as a vocation: a calling to seek truth, build understanding, and contribute to the common good.

Students explore how words, images, stories, and digital media shape relationships, communal practices, and cultural imagination. Through a blend of theory and practice, students learn to think critically about media while gaining hands-on experience creating it - developing the ability to communicate with clarity, integrity, imagination, and purpose.

Our program integrates a strong Liberal Arts foundation with experiential learning in storytelling, media production, digital communication, and cultural analysis. Students don’t just learn how to use media - they learn how to understand it, evaluate it, and shape it responsibly.

Graduates leave prepared for careers in various communication fields: media, marketing, education, nonprofit work, ministry, public service, and creative industries - or for advanced study. They are equipped not only to succeed professionally, but to contribute to the renewal of culturethrough truthful, beautiful, and meaningful communication.
