The goal of the Tutorial Services Center (TSC) is to help students become more self-sufficient and confident in their learning skills. Grounded in the Catholic intellectual tradition and the University’s commitment to educating the whole person, the TSC supports students in developing the knowledge, habits, and confidence needed for academic and personal success. To support this mission, the TSC partners with Knack Tutoring to provide comprehensive peer tutoring for students currently enrolled at UST. Tutors meet specific academic requirements, are recommended by UST faculty, and complete structured training to support students in a variety of academic subjects and general writing skills. Through our partnership with Knack, tutoring is available both in person and virtually, making academic support accessible and flexible for all students.
In addition to helping with course content, tutors support students in strengthening core academic skills and understanding broader concepts. Tutors guide the writing process by identifying areas for improvement such as thesis clarity, grammar patterns, organization, and development. Students at all levels use tutoring to refine their work, gain feedback, and build confidence in their learning.
The TSC offers workshops throughout the semester on topics such as thesis development, paragraph organization, the research paper process, and writing successful essay examinations. Workshop information is shared through Instagram, signage outside the Center, and weekly Campus Announcements.
The Tutorial Services Center is located in Doherty Library, Room B03. Tutoring is available through Knack in both in-person and virtual formats. The TSC website provides comprehensive information and answers many student questions. You may contact us at tutoring@stthom.edu or by calling 713-525-3878.
