Study of engineering principles used in the repair, replacement, and regeneration of biological tissues. Topics include cell–biomaterial interactions, scaffold design, bioreactors, growth factors, and strategies for tissue development. Applications include engineered skin, cartilage, bone, and vascular tissues, with consideration of clinical translation and ethical issues.
