This graduate-level course introduces the physics of semiconductors. Topics include crystal structures (Miller indices), energy bands, direct and indirect bandgap semiconductors, charge carriers, carrier transport mechanisms, carrier statistics, drift and diffusion currents, generation and recombination processes, doping, Fermi levels, p-type and n-type semiconductors, Brillouin zones, and unit cells. The course also covers the operating principles of p–n junctions and diodes, solar cells (optoelectronic devices), MOS capacitors, and MOSFETs.
