Survey of the utterances of Jesus as found in the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) and the Gospel of Thomas. Background issues are discussed (synoptic problem, redaction criticism, etc.), but principally the course examines key aspects of Jesus’ utterances: their extent, form, authenticity, interpretation and theology.
