J. Pregnancy and Parenting Adjustments

Pregnancy and Parenting Adjustments

The University is committed to ensuring that students who are pregnant, experiencing pregnancy-related conditions, recovering from childbirth, or serving as parents have equal access to educational programs and activities. In accordance with applicable federal and state laws, students may request reasonable modifications and supportive measures related to pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, and related medical conditions.

Pregnancy-related adjustments are coordinated through the University's Title IX Office. Students seeking modifications or supportive measures should submit a request through the Title IX Pregnancy and Parenting Support Request Form available on the University website or contact the Title IX Coordinator directly for assistance.

Examples of pregnancy-related adjustments may include:

  • excused absences for pregnancy-related medical appointments,
  • reasonable breaks during class or activities,
  • access to lactation space,
  • temporary modifications to attendance requirements,
  • flexibility with assignment deadlines, and
  • other reasonable adjustments necessary to ensure equal access to educational programs and activities.

Requests are reviewed on an individualized basis through an interactive process coordinated by the Title IX Coordinator.

Students whose pregnancy-related condition results in a disability or long-term medical impairment may also be eligible for accommodations through the Office of Access and Disability Services (ADS). Examples may include students experiencing chronic medical conditions, temporary disabilities resulting from pregnancy complications, or other conditions that substantially limit one or more major life activities. In such circumstances, the Title IX Coordinator and ADS may work collaboratively to ensure appropriate support is provided.

Questions regarding pregnancy and parenting adjustments should be directed to the Title IX Coordinator. Information regarding disability accommodations related to pregnancy-related impairments may be obtained from the Office of Access and Disability Services.
