This introductory course examines the foundations of abnormal behavior and psychopathology. Students explore psychological distress, impairment, and dysfunction through biological, psychological, social, and cultural perspectives. The course introduces students to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and other frameworks for conceptualizing mental health conditions. Emphasis is placed on understanding classification systems, major categories of mental disorders, and the role of context and culture in diagnosis.
